actually , the only Ukrainian oblast with a majority of ethnic russians was Crimea , all those 4 in the east all had a majority of ethnic Ukrainians although with a significant russian minority and at the time of separation from the USSR all these oblasts voted heavily to be part of Ulraine and leave the USSR .
Most of the ethnic Ukrainians were forced to leave when russia advanced into their homeland .
Certainly putin won't give up on what he's taken but he's also demanding parts of those 4 oblasts he has been unable to take and is against peacekeepers - indicating he wants to be back for another try later !
These are valuable lands as you indicate for minerals and also for agriculture .
This situation will continuye to destabalise the word unless someone is stron enough to give Ukraine unequivical support against russian aggression .
Obvious implications for GP .
