When co's raise they can do it via placements to sophisticated investors (sophs) or institutions, via share purchase plans (SPPs) and entitlement offers etc. Increasingly co's are just doing it via placements to sophs or institutions - this means existing holders may miss out (unless they are sophs and clients of the co running the placement). These placements are much easier and quicker than mucking around with SPPs and entitlement offers and IMO SPP's (and entitlement offers to a lesser degree) are going to go the way of the dinosaurs and video players,
