A jumbo standing on a tarmac facing the wind , it can become airborne, fully loaded , about 335 tones .
Like Tracey, Althea struck at Xmas and 10 Sqn (Neptunes) had only one crew on standby (there was always one for Search And Rescue) so only one bird was flown out. I never counted but there must have been six or seven left on the tarmac.
A row of sand bags down the chord of the wings broke up the aerodynamic lift and a couple of big concrete blocks (there were anchor points for this) stopped them moving. When it was all over, one aircraft had a scar on the fibreglass radome. That's all!!!!!
A much milder one (1954?) collapsed a WWII wooden hanger on a Lincoln so that clearly wasn't a good idea.
