The institution still get the divvies like any other shareholder but the buyback could be split into a component where retail shareholder only needed to reduce their cost base with a return of capital distribution.
That was the common practices of past listed ASX companies….for reason this type of return isn’t favoured by many boards…possibly of demand by institutions.
I was told by a investor relation officer in a listed financial company that they ask the institution and T20 on how to distribute return of capital
