A large inferred geothermal resource has been independently estimated at the Green Rock (ASX: GRK) Perth basin permits.
The stored heat estimate totals over 1 million PJt (petajoules thermal) in seven of Green Rocks permits, with the indicated geothermal resource, based on temperature data recorded in existing wells within the target reservoir, is 26,000 PJt.
Green Rock said this resource is easily sufficient to support a target of 100MW of power generation capacity, with the project based within a region of rapid power demand growth.
Adrian Larking, director of operations, said "our work now is to collect additional data and interpretations so that we can define drilling targets in the HSA formations where there is a high water temperature as well as natural permeability and therefore the best chance of high water flow rates."
Green Rock is planning to define drilling targets in the first half of 2011.
