Lister, one point that perhaps is also being missed is that irrespective of who owns the coal at the mine gate, production tonnage will still be subject to the vagaries of barging it out. The question is whether the advantages of not having to worry themselves with the barging will balance out against not being able to seize opportunities in the spot markets.
I've mentioned before that finding a coal deposit and mining it in Indonesia is the the easy part, there are literally thousands of operators that are doing what KRL are doing, it is so easy. What separates the players from the stayers is in having a vision, and the nouse to develop cost effective ways to overcome the logistics involved in getting the coal out, and being skilled at marketing it. No greater example perhaps is what New Hope did with the Adaro mine.
