I thought I best double- check just now.
(Rather than simply saying what I believed be true , that Cloncurry I don’t think is really effected by significant rainfall nor flooding really .)
If roads are not sealed, any rain and mostly on the plains and effecting all exploration companies & activities, especially to the west of the town or farm areas- the Cloncurry area ground swiftly immediately turns to sticky mud when rain starts to fall & prevents driving on tracks , can get vehicles stranded until ground is fully dried up again.
Exploration in undeveloped areas just must wait until the wet season concludes this time of year.
As we have good sealed road from Cloncurry , A1M Eloise mining & operations is to the east of town also, & is not I think at all flood- prone.
A1M Eloise- Jericho -
The mine has been here, began operations more than 25 years now .
Floods never been a concern.
Ernest Henry EVN mine is also not flood -prone , about 50-60kms to north of Eloise. (A1M MD Aaron C acquired Ernest Henry from Glencore, orchestrated the deal for EVN when he lead Evolution there for about a decade, before branching into joining A1M in 2020)
I understood this all from when the significant floods occurred Cloncurry- Gulf region in 2019.
Roads were cut & bridges washed away to the west & north of Cloncurry that event, significantly curtailing activities during the cleanup of properties and restoration of roads which took months.
Anyway-
I’ve looked it up and then lost this post a few times- but can see that actually Cloncurry rainfall has been a bit below average Jan- March 3 monthly totals.
And there is no notable rainfall event :
The dramatic enormous area of flooding is not in North Queensland there at all.
(there is separate ongoing significant floods and effect way over near the coast NQ -greater Ingham, Burdekin dam & Charters Towers region)
Due to the rise in the landscape, north -south a big western area of Queensland and into NT is in flood.
The water cannot escape quickly towards the sea ever, large area springs to life as channels of drainage, flat, & esp the flooding is way down into and west in the state , tending into the SW corner and the borders region.
Ultimately into Sth Oz. (Though not going to get to Hmb pet fish territory and has not come from the sky there as they would have hoped in extreme dry parts that need the rain in SA)
I would like to go over and visit Lake Eyre in many months time and see this wonderful country, as a once in lifetime experience, from this incredible event.
Prob won’t be able to go swimming in or across it though . (Just thought now, a joke, but it is what I do )
I bought a few here today.
All the best, & to Ash, & all ex Minotaur journey holders
