Australia places a strong emphasis on solar and wind energy for several reasons:
Abundant Natural Resources: Australia is blessed with vast sunny landscapes and strong coastal winds, ( no other country can compare and with less dense population) making it an ideal location for harnessing solar and wind power
Environmental Goals: The country is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and meeting international climate targets. Transitioning to renewable energy sources like solar and wind is a key part of this strategy.
Economic Benefits: Investing in renewables creates jobs, stimulates technological innovation, and reduces reliance on imported fossil fuels.
Energy Independence: By leveraging its natural resources, Australia can ensure a more sustainable and self-reliant energy future.
Government Policies: Supportive policies and incentives have accelerated the adoption of renewable energy technologies, making them more accessible to businesses and households.
In the 2007 Australian federal election, the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and the Liberal-National Coalition (LNP) had some overlapping energy and climate change policies, but there were also key differences. Both parties supported the introduction of an emissions trading scheme (ETS) to address climate change, which was a significant policy alignment at the time. However, the ALP, led by Kevin Rudd, pledged to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, signaling a stronger commitment to international climate agreements. In contrast, the LNP, under John Howard, had resisted ratifying the Kyoto Protocol during its time in government.
The ALP also proposed more ambitious renewable energy targets and investments in clean energy technologies compared to the LNP. These differences reflected broader ideological divides on environmental issues, even though the shared support for an ETS marked a rare moment of bipartisan agreement on climate policy.
If Mr Howard had won the 2007 election, we would talking about something more advanced now and the Climate Change wars would never have happened
