Westgold Sells Lakewood Mill for $85 Million

Westgold has completed the sale of its non-core Lakewood Mill.The facility near Kalgoorlie is being sold to Black Cat Syndicate Limited for $85 million Australian dollars (AUD).The company announced that this move will allow it to focus even more on cost-efficient core operations.The sale is part of a strategic realignment that will see smaller sites abandoned in favor of larger, more productive units.Details of the TransactionAccording to the company, the sale includes a cash portion of $70 million and Black Cat shares valued at $15 million.
According to Westgold, the shares were valued at $0.76 per share.An initial payment of $25 million was made at the end of March.A further $20 million is expected to be paid by the end of June, and the remaining $25 million by the end of November.Despite the sale, Westgold secured the right to process up to 200,000 tons of ore annually at the Lakewood mill for the next two years.This agreement, a so-called "Toll Treatment Agreement," allows for the continued use of industrial infrastructure for a fee.
Strategic Reorientation toward Higher-Performance SitesAccording to CEO Wayne Bramwell, the sale serves to implement a long-term strategy focused on larger, more efficient mines and mills.
The Lakewood facility was underperforming compared to other sites.A concrete example of the reorientation is the complete relocation of ore processing from the Beta Hunt mine to the Higginsville mill.The Higginsville mill has a processing capacity of approximately 1.6 million tons per year.According to Westgold, concentrating on this site will allow higher ore grades to be processed more economically and reduce operating costs.Planned Expansion of the Higginsville MillA feasibility study for a potential expansion of the Higginsville Mill is currently in its final stages.Westgold expects the results to be published in April.
Expanding capacity would give the company additional flexibility to process more ore from its own or external sources in the future.According to the company, the company is continuing to consistently pursue the strategy it launched in 2023 to move away from small-scale structures and focus its operations on scalable, cost-efficient facilities.Westgold now operates six mines and four mills in Western Australia's most important gold regions.

so for me it was interesting enough to post it...... a piece of the mosaic for the increasing consolidation on the gold market.i believe rick rule said some time ago that only 150 mining companies should remain worldwide ...to facilitate financing.....but it could also have been Friedland...
