Tariffs are an insult to productivity. Instead of tariffs Trump should have gone down the path of promoting increased efficiency and productivity - that would beat tariffs any day! All tariffs do is artificially distort the market place! Also tariffs don't work unless you also have trade restrictions in place otherwise you can more or less avoid the tariffs by under cutting the tariff margin, which is precisely what China may do! So where is the benefit of a Trump tariff? In the long run it all comes down to who is the most efficient producer that's why in the case of Albosleazy's Australian made solar panels they will never complete with those made in China!!! We do not have the capacity nor efficiencies in his country to compete with the likes of China or other manufacturing countries where their labour force and technological advantage is so much greater than ours. that's why we don't have a car industry anymore! We on the other hand are resource rich and so our advantage is in providing the raw materials and that is why a labor government was able to produce a surplus based on our commodity exports - nothing to do with their economic credentials,, which by the way are zilch!! Sometimes you can get lucky!!! We are now seeing the distortions a Trump tariff fiasco is manifesting its way through the World's stock markets - could be an interesting one tomorrow! Thank goodness I saw the developing storm clouds and got out before the tornado hit!
