Haha wow. Something about this reversal in the face of a market rout reminded me of an old Bill Hicks standup bit about the priorities of an American president. Apologies to the man in black (RIP) for potentially misremembering it somewhat:

When you become the new president, no matter what you’ve promised on the campaign trail, when you win, you go into this smoky room with the 12 industrialist, capitalist scumf**ks who got you elected, and a big guy puffing on a cigar says “Roll the film”. Then a little projector comes down, and on the screen, is a shot of the Kennedy assassination- from an angle you’ve never seen before.. And the screen rolls back up, and the guy with the cigar says “Any questions?” And the new president says “Uhh, just what my agenda is?”
