Has some very good points. But some major disadvantages:
Only one in China up and running - others in US are research.
Salts are very corrosive.
and a major stumbling block:
- MSRE and ARE used high enriched uranium approaching weapons-grade. These levels would be illegal in most modern power plant regulatory regimes. Most modern designs employ lower-enriched fuels.[14]
But their history is pretty interesting. Original experimental for use as engine in a 1950's bomber!
