Severance packages can be expensive, if that is the way they go they are tactics in protecting the cash they have left, cutting staff is generally a last desperate effort before businesses go into receivership. If that's what happens you are almost pre-empting what will happen next. Maybe that's what is at stake here and the current ructions in the mgt ranks do seem to suggest that.
