Maybe MGX should look at other investment opportunities which don't involve digging ore from the ground.
There are a number of small companies with great opportunities that lack the funds to expand. One such commodity is magnesium, currently China controls more than 90% of world supply.
If EV's are going to reduce weight then magnesium is an important requirement to make the bodies and components. Magnesium is needed as an additive to make aluminium light and strong.
Magnesium normally uses a huge amount of power to produce one tonne.
"very energy intensive, requiring 80 kWh of energy to produce 1 kg of magnesium at temperatures of up to 1,200oC. It is a two-step process, first requiring reduction of silica into silicon using carbon, before the silicon is then used to make the magnesium."
Magnesium usage has increased threefold and Europe's power is too expensive to produce Mg.
Imagine trying to produce one tonne of Mg in Germany, the power cost alone would be 6 times the price that China sells at US$2,500/t.
A small struggling company in Australia Latrobe Magnesium LMG has a patented process that not only halves the operating cost of traditional magnesium and cement production methods, but reduces carbon emissions by as much as 60% compared to the industry average.
LMG is planning to build a factory in Sarawak Malaysia which has cheap hydro power, but the company has little funds and its been difficult to raise funds in the current market.
I'm not suggesting that MGX takes this over, but my point is to show that there are many opportunities available and I doubt whether the MGX management would look beyond their normal mining expertise.
