Because these announcements seem to be around POSCO securing graphite on commercial terms and sometimes making an equity contribution into the source before building their own spherical graphite plant. You are only getting the POSCO piece of this announcement because they aren't creating JV's for the downstream processing - well at least currently. They are just obtaining material and doing the project themselves.

Curiously there is no references to purification because the material leaving mine site wouldn't have the purity needed for batteries making it unclear whether the suppliers are being made to produce high-purity flake graphite or whether its the EGR approach of mining the graphite with minesite beneficiation, making it spherical and then undertaking purification of that spherical material.

Other proposed operations like Sarytogan are sitting on a massive graphite deposit but their proposed purification method is a thermal reactor at about US$97m each with a 6ktpa throughput with this reactor heating the graphite up to 3,000 degrees. This would most likely burning/melt all the impurities away with unknown air/slag pollution implications. This alternative purification pathway isn't getting much investment love and indirectly shows the value of EGR's patent purification method.
