Okay I have a sort of proof the short sellers are buying and selling against themself to force the market down.
The graph below shows the % of stock traded on a day for the ASX (orange line) against the 5 shorted (Blue Line). Its clear from the orange line the more the stock is shorted the more shares traded on a single day. Sadly this is only for the ASX traded stock if both exchanges it might show more but I don't have that data.
