VFB LCOS (levelised cost of storage) becomes on par with lithium at 4hrs, and smashes it out of the park at 8+ hrs.
They don't degrade. you can augmate (i.e. add additional tanks) later, recycle the vandium etc.
All of these advantages will protect VFBs against a low lithium floor price (if this occurs).
In Australian context it is easy to get 70+% local content for a VFB, lithium is 20% at best and reliant on Chinese supply chains.
In reality Tesla, BYD etc. aren't going to change their whole supply chin from lithium to sodium batteries, that is just unrealistic. The technology isn't that much better that these companies are going to reinvest 100s of billions of dollars at the drop of a hat.
Most experts agree the renewables transition is big enough that each technology will have its' place.
VFBs is grid storage.
