REE deposits seem to be always associated with high levels of Thorium. The VRL Pimenta tenements are located in what may be, from the Thorium perspective, the largest and hottest districts in Brazil.
This kmz file (below) can be used with Google Earth to show :
1) the location of the VRL Pimenta tenements. Other tenements also associated with Foxfire are also shown.
2) the Thorium levels in the tenements as measured by aerial survey
3) the watercourses running through the tenements. They are coloured by Strahler Order.
4) the location of Rock Chip sampling and assays reported by VRL in this announcement. The location markers are sized by the estimated value of the sample assay
5) a link to a GE Street View, outside but within 9km of a VRL tenement
6) the Thorium levels at Niobium mines in Minas Gerais (CBMM,Tapira) shown as an inset map. The rendering colours and contour lines have the same Thorium values as in 2) above. The Thorium measurements are taken from the same SGB Project in 2011.
7) "Fly to AOI 1" to display an overview of the tenements. "Fly to AOI 2" displays the confluence of Corrego da Areia (Sand Stream) and a north flowing tributary. The tributary can be seen delivering large quantities of black sediment into Corrego da Areia.
IMO the prospectivity of this district is indicated by the extremely high eTh levels and the immense area covered. The annual rainfall in this area is high, but only falls in a few months of the year. Significant erosion of components of the intrusives seems to be occurring. Deposition of dark sediments seems to stretch along the Jequitinhonha River to (and into) the sea.
It is interesting that the best VRL assay "RBS-117" was taken 11km upstream of the stream junction shown in "Fly to AOI 2".
