Out of curiosity I thought I would try giving ChatGPT the exact same question from here. As in your case it brought Hazer into the answer (note I've not taken the time to check the rest of the answer regarding the other partnerships mentioned):

    --

KBR (Kellogg Brown & Root) is actively involved in multiple sectors of the hydrogen economy, leveraging its proprietary technologies and engineering expertise to support the global transition to low-carbon energy.(Wikipedia)

    Sectors Where KBR Utilizes Hydrogen

    1. Industrial Decarbonization

KBR’s blue hydrogen technology, notably its H2KPlus™ system, is central to large-scale decarbonization projects. For instance, in the UK’s HyNet project, KBR is providing process technology and front-end engineering design (FEED) for a 1,000 MW blue hydrogen facility aimed at reducing emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as manufacturing and heavy industry .(KBR, KBR)

    2. Ammonia and Methanol Production

Through a strategic alliance with Hazer Group, KBR is deploying methane pyrolysis technology to produce clean hydrogen for use in ammonia and methanol synthesis. This approach offers a low-emissions alternative for industries traditionally reliant on carbon-intensive processes .(GlobeNewswire)

    3. Power Generation and Fuel Cells

KBR is involved in projects that utilize hydrogen for power generation and fuel cell applications. For example, their collaboration with Chemours focuses on expanding Nafion™ membrane technology, which is integral to hydrogen power generation and storage systems .(KBR)

    4. Transportation

In the transportation sector, KBR's technologies support the production of hydrogen fuel for vehicles. Their H2KPlus™ system is designed to supply high-purity hydrogen suitable for fuel cell-powered transportation, contributing to the development of zero-emission vehicles .(KBR)

    5. Green Ammonia Production

KBR is also engaged in green ammonia projects, such as the collaboration with Avina Clean Hydrogen in the U.S. Gulf Coast. This project involves producing green ammonia through water electrolysis powered by renewable energy, offering a sustainable solution for fertilizer production and energy storage .(avinah2.com, KBR)

Through these initiatives, KBR demonstrates a comprehensive approach to integrating hydrogen technologies across various sectors, supporting global efforts toward a more sustainable and low-carbon future.

Then I asked it "What is the point in them partnering with Hazer Group?" and got the following, which, on the face of it, seems to cover off what we already know quite well:

    --

KBR’s partnership with Hazer Group is strategic and centers on commercializing Hazer’s methane pyrolysis technology, which converts methane into clean hydrogen and solid carbon using an iron ore catalyst. Here's the key value of this partnership for KBR:

    1. Expanding Clean Hydrogen Offerings

KBR already has strong blue hydrogen technologies (like H2KPlus™), but Hazer’s process offers a low-emissions alternative that doesn't require carbon capture and storage (CCS). Instead of CO₂, it produces solid carbon, which can be safely stored or used in other industries (e.g., construction, battery materials).

    2. Strengthening Position in the Low-Carbon Economy

By partnering with Hazer, KBR can offer clients a broader portfolio of low-carbon hydrogen solutions, from traditional steam methane reforming + CCS (blue hydrogen) to this novel, low-footprint pyrolysis pathway. This helps KBR meet rising global demand for cleaner hydrogen production methods.

    3. Licensing and Global Commercialization

KBR brings global engineering, licensing, and project delivery capabilities. Hazer has a strong technology but limited scale. KBR enables:

    • Faster global rollout of Hazer’s technology.

    • Commercial licensing to major players worldwide.

    • Access to KBR’s existing customer base and infrastructure projects.

    4. Diversification and Innovation

Hazer’s method complements KBR’s existing technologies, allowing KBR to:

    • Enter new markets (e.g., regions without CCS infrastructure).

    • Support smaller-scale hydrogen production where CCS is not viable.

    • Explore solid carbon markets as a new value stream.

In summary: The partnership helps KBR diversify and strengthen its clean hydrogen portfolio by bringing an innovative, low-emissions technology to a global market—while giving Hazer the commercial muscle to scale up quickly.

Would you like a technical breakdown of how the Hazer process works?

    --

So it seems to be giving reasonably useful responses and seems to be up to date with the connection with Hazer.

However I'm always skeptical, case in point being recently when I asked ChatGPT to give a background precis + references on a relatively new method for detecting slow moving landslides in a certain part of NZ and while the output looked very plausible and even gave references to authors I am already familiar with, almost all of the "references" themselves were made up!!

    Caveat emptor, as they say.
