There appears to be some serious commitment and planning yet most of it is only just now entering the phase where serious purchasing is taking place. It's been rushed in the ad-hoc manner you mention where need has appeared to be urgent, yet is being developed more slowly to become a permeant aspect of militaries. Organised, heavily funded, and serious acquisition for the long term is starting now and hopefully EOS is well positioned and ready for this.
Most have been a keeping a tight control on info of what they are planning in this space. For lots of different reasons.
