To be objective as opposed to ideologically focused, you would need to do a side by side of DEI appointments vs peers to understand the magnitude (if any) of the alleged under performance.
Lets be clear about merit. There have been decades, in fact centuries of meritless or entitlement appointments but inverse to the current DEI push which isl root of the DEI movement today. The depravity you speak of, has existed for as long, but been the norm.
Better transparency and respectful dialogue will balance out the overreach, not emotive castigation and in particular because it is hypocritical.
