"The worm has turned" is an idiom that means someone who has been oppressed or downtrodden unexpectedly becomes forceful and starts resisting. It signifies a shift in power dynamics where a weaker party, who has previously accepted bad treatment or endured hardship, suddenly acts in a more assertive manner.

While Germany is phasing out nuclear power and shutting down its nuclear power plants, the rest of the world is increasingly relying on nuclear energy. Now the Czechs are also continuing to build up nuclear power – 17 kilometers from the German border.
As the Federal Environment Ministry has now confirmed, it was informed at the beginning of May about an upcoming cross-border environmental impact assessment from the Czech Republic. This concerns the construction of an SMR nuclear power plant on the site of the Tušimice coal-fired power plant south of Chomutov.
Whether in Poland, Finland, South Korea, or the USA – all are researching " Small Modular Reactor " (SMR) technology. These are small nuclear reactors that can be prefabricated in factories and then transported to their destination and assembled. A facility with three such reactor blocks is now to be built south of the Ore Mountains.
The Czech energy company ČEZ is the developer of the planned plant in Chomutov, Bohemia. Following the decommissioning of the Tušimice coal-fired power plant there in 2030, several nuclear reactors are to be built on its site between 2034 and 2042. The first unit, with a capacity of 470 megawatts, is scheduled to go online in 2038 at the earliest. The Saxon AfD is different. In a statement, its general secretary Jan Zwerg (60) welcomed the Czechs' plan and recommended that the Greens offer a "science tutoring course."
Small Modular Reactors are particularly safe and produce hardly any radioactive waste. "Saxony should also follow the path taken by the Czech Republic," Zwerg demanded in a statement.
Saxony's CDU Minister-President Michael Kretschmer (50) is also considered an active advocate of a return to nuclear power. As recently as 2023, shortly before the then-trafficked coalition government shut down the last three German nuclear power plants, Kretschmer had expressed his support for Poland's nuclear power plans .
