Vidalia is a concern and sure Tesla be a nice to have but really the story here for me is about how things shape up with Posco M and their building of their non Chinese graphite refinery:
"POSCO Future M announced on April 22 2025 a 396.1 billion won investment to establish “Carbon New Material Co., Ltd.” (tentative name) for domestic spherical graphite production. This move aims to create a supply chain independent of China, which currently dominates over 90% of the global anode market." .... " POSCO Future M has secured non-Chinese natural graphite through a contract with Australia’s Syrah Resources and access to the Mahenge mine in Tanzania, invested in by its affiliate POSCO International. These partnerships enhance the company’s supply chain competitiveness and mitigate risks associated with over-reliance on Chinese suppliers. A POSCO Future M representative stated, “We plan to establish a domestic plant for the production of spherical graphite.” This initiative aims to reduce dependency on Chinese materials and allow POSCO Future M to compete within the market currently dominated by Chinese companies once FEOC regulations are fully implemented in 2027."
Funny how coincidentally the US Treasury Department will give automakers a two-year extension to 2027 on restrictions to some hard-to-trace minerals from China, such as graphite contained in anodes...
