Jesus clearly taught the He is the only way to his father God, this was true in was His time, the NT is a compilation of fragments of His life and Teachings and the effect of His Teachings. Jesus is a Manifestation of God, a Messiah, the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus so that He represented God to humanity. He was the sole authority and representation of God.
So I'm not willingly ignorant, nor am I contradicting what Jesus said. I'm trying my best to understand how what Jesus said fits into the context of an ever advancing humanity and a state of humanity having new needs and requirements not catered to by Judaism, Christianity, Islam or the other major religions. Clearly each age has a new religion tailored to its needs and the Founders of those religions say that the only way to the Father is through them. They say more than that, that in fact they are all one, of one spirit, because they serve the single Will of God, so they are all the one path to the Father.
As for what I use to explain the Bible, well obviously I start with the Bible, I have then read the Quran, Hindu scriptures, Buddhist writings and Baha'i writings to help form a picture of what the real meaning of Bible passages might be. The Bible is not self-explanatory, I have no idea why Christians have this notion that the Bible is some simple, plain English work that anybody can pick up and understand without the slightest effort.
God is providing through Jesus a means to eternal life and the majority of Christians think this happens via simple literal words. When the poet speaks of beauty, love, fidelity they do so with words of symbolism, abstraction, and emotion because they say more to the human spirit that mere literal words. The Bible is the same, it is a Book of love and deepest engagement, the meaning of one's existence and yet people think such powerful sentiments are written in simple, literal words.
We know this is impossible because so many passages of the Bible if taken literally contradict reality and God is the author of reality. Before the Bible God established reality, it is the foundation of Creation. God did not then produce the Bible via the Prophets to contradict His own reality. This proves beyond any doubt that the Bible is a grand work of poetic, symbolic, emotive words to invoke a spiritual reaction, not some simple literal work that even an atheist might understand at a single reading.
And why when anybody disagrees with the fundamentalist interpretation they are blinded, they are confounded, wilful, etc. Never for a moment does the fundamentalist Christian consider that they are the ones in error. In every single instance when a new religion formed throughout the history of the Bible the people who caused the greatest harm to that new religion, Abrahamic religion, Noah's religion, Moses, and most of all the religion of Christ, it was the most devout, fundamentalist believers who put Christ to death. In every age it is the fundamentalist, the follower of the previous religion who tries their very best to crush the new religion. As in the days of Noah so too it was for Jesus.
