Your second comment is even more pertinent. NO investor/trader looks at the current debt. They just look at future debt. The current debt will never be paid back.
I read another very funny comment by Bessant. He said the US will NEVER default. He is 100% correct. But all the bad stuff that comes with that position still occurs even if the term 'default'' is never used. ie currency problems, bond problems, interest problems, inflation, private debt default etc.
