Generally speaking, it's not so much that they are unaware, but more so that they don't care. And when they do care it's purely paternal as if they are placating an ignorant child; a lessor being. They are raised to think they are special in an environment that confirms it is so - the paradox of conditioning in an easily influenced animal, like humans. There are some that rise above it of course due to their ability to critical think beyond the conditioning process, but they are far and few between.
