Furthermore, while Scripture affirms the importance of hospitality, it also makes clear that our homes are to be places of holiness, governed by God’s commands. Those who enter—whether family or stranger—are expected to respect the spiritual standards of the household (Deuteronomy 6:9, 11:20; Exodus 20:10; Joshua 24:15). Inviting a person into your home whose lifestyle, beliefs, or behaviour may be at odds with God’s ways—especially someone you do not know—carries the serious risk of compromising your responsibility to protect your household spiritually (Genesis 18:19, 2 Corinthians 6:14–18). Hospitality must be paired with discernment; kindness is never meant to override righteousness. The Bible teaches that a holy and righteous home is one where all inhabitants—whether native or guest—are guided by the word of God, ensuring that the privileges of hospitality do not become an avenue for sin.
