    It may not be a moan in your mind but it is a very narrow minded and ignorant view on a extremely broad situation, and that is the cause of a lot of arguments on these forums.
    Most people think that their 1/2 dozen solar panels is important. It may be to them but in the scheme of their entire lifestyle they are a miniscule part of a very much broader solution...
    I agree with power companies shutting off air cons etc when they need too. It will force houses to be built with energy efficiency in mind.
    Eg How many buildings do you know which have greater than R4 insulation values? or even double glazed windows.
    R8 should be the absolute minimum. That alone would reduce the grid requirements by 10%. I have never done a power assessment on a dwelling which couldn't reduce its energy usage by between 20-40% just bust by replacing their electrical appliances with efficient versions. Then we could start looking outside the front door.
    And even from a very narrow minded point of view, money saved is more valuable than money earned, because you dont have to pay tax on it...
