Just an after-thought. For about $150m, VAU could pick up 10% of BGL on market (at current prices) and build its own blocking stake to dissuade other potential predators. Does anyone remember that SLR initially picked up a blocking stake in RED ahead of pressing on with a full bid?
Despite recently elevated gold prices, there's not a lot of other Aussie gold mining companies who have the sort of cash on hand that VAU currently has and who could immediately take up a strong position on theBGL share register.
