Sorry, I must disagree about Australia ‘going it alone’ toward production of consumer magnets. Look at the Lynas decade it took to sort out the IP for the reliable high purity processing we have now. And only Japan’s financial support saved us from going under! There is no Australian expertise in RE processing further downstream.
Any idea of competing with China to produce consumer magnets is a fantasy under our built-in high cost and short-term government bureaucratic regulations, power and labour costs.
Imho the optimum way forward for Lynas is via an expanded linkage with Japanese magnet expertise, preferably combined with an American or European partner - to provide the economic weight that’s essential to challenge China’s RE monopsony.
