It's not really a contradiction. Spiritual advancement requires a shift in focus, away from the material and toward the unknowable.
You can do whatever you want - spend your whole life chasing money if you like. But without any sort of spiritual work, you're going to reincarnate. Even if you do the work, the probability of escaping the matrix is very small.
The thing that reincarnates is desire, which creates karma and is stored in what some people call the akashic record. After death, this template attracts a new body. It goes on like this - lifetime after lifetime - until the person sees that it's a treadmill. No matter how much money you have, it won't bring lasting happiness, peace or freedom. Even if you have 10B$, you're still going to face pain, suffering, old age & death.
