At the end of the day natural graphite isn't rare, but what is rare is RNU's unique flat-lying resource that will be able to undercut almost everyone in the game, including many subsidised Chinese opaque players that are already defaulting due to rising costs.
Also, RNU is blessed that its resource is located in a secure mining jurisdiction and within the South east Asia region where the only 'mature' anode sectors are. Specifically, Japan and South Korea, which are more likely to supply the EU due to their lack of established industries and expertise. It's likely to take several years to build a fully functional EU industry, but it doesn't mean they won't have one.
It's interesting that the G7 meeting this weekend coincides with this trading halt. Clean energy, the shift to decarbonisation, the effects on the environment, society, and governance (ESG) are on the agenda. Perhaps the Minister wants the world to know that South Australia is open for business and thorough at what it does.
