By the way@Cato Trump calling in the National Guard was unnecessary and illegal. They are a function of the various states and only the Governors acting on the advice of State police can legally call them in.
For precedent, it's always been the Governors, such as the decision of Mayor Daley of Chicago Ilnnois, in 1968 who decided to confront protesters against the Vietnam war.

It's never a good idea to confront peaceful protestors and escalate into violence. But when you have troops lying around looking for a way to relieve the boredom, sent in by Trump and the means, they will look for opportunities that's for sure.. this is why Governor Newsom is incensed. There is no rioting on the streets, just a few isolated incidents; it's a media fuelled beat-up. The only person who legally can call in the national guard in the state of California is Newsom as governor. No wonder he has a court order seeking to declare Trump's move as illegal.
What matters right now is what Trump and Bessent are going to do to the US dollar because the extra trillions they are spending is showing all the signs of a crash and burn.
