Canadian Medical Isotope Ecosystem

Other success stories underscore the strength of Canada’s isotope sector. ARTMS, a spin-off created by TRIUMF, BC Cancer, CPDC, and Lawson Health, used an initial $13 million in government funding to develop a cyclotron-based isotope production system. It later secured $20 million in Series A funding from the private sector and was acquired by Telix Pharmaceuticals for $82.5 million. ARTMS too, continues to thrive and grow in BC with additional funding from its new global parent, Telix.

Today, Canadian companies and researchers are fueling innovation with highly promising isotopes like lutetium-177 and actinium-225. As research progresses, new applications for these isotopes continue to emerge, increasing clinical trials and accelerating demand. With a sophisticated supply chain and world-class isotope production, Canada is well-positioned to continue to lead this innovation and meet growing demand.
