They won't have to DeMan, metalstorm are making a round that uses optical fusing, the targeting system identifies the target and when the round reaches it's intended destination calculated by optics on board the round it explodes, this is different from the XM25 method where the sighting system talks to the round and tells it how far away the target is and when the round completes a certain number of revolution due to rifling then it explodes, not sure which system is the better one? but maybe the optical fusing method can be fired from a smooth bore weapon, and one that uses fin stabilized rounds?
MST were asked to do this so there must be a reason?
