Regarding your speedy dismissal of moving average analysis :-
Surlely you realise that two things are possible :-
1. In an uptrend over-stretched prices can retreat towards rising averages, or 2. Averages can reverse their direction under the influence of falling prices
To suggest that these provide no opportunities is to deny reallity ?
Incumbent trends are our friend ? Until they are not ?
Simple really ?
