The Road to El Dorado

I can't stop thinking of Tivan's adventure to Turascai as similar to the road to Eldorado in which the treasure trove of gold was found xD


A long time ago back in 1937 in Timor-Leste the gold panning season used to start in July in which 1500 natives would participate throughout the Sue, South Laclo, and Cler rivers.



There is no way to estimate exactly how much gold they found as it would be impossible however masses of people searched every year. When AMC went in 1936 there was a number of rice sized peices and 10g or more peices found. The largest that year observed was 107 grammes followed by 75 grammes. When searching in 1937 a great deal of placer gold was found that year too.


There also are old prospective tunnels in parts of these rivers some upto 50 feet long which stories are told to be from generations before the 1930's and had caved in and killed those searching.

Tivan have not only got one of the best spots on Timor Leste but within the Manufai District itself to search for the source of this placer gold.

Also from today's announcement from Stephen Walsh chief geologist "and we know there are significant mineral occurrences of copper".

lets hope they find that entrance to that waterfall in Turascaiado... Riches await us all if they do..
