To qualify for Sophisticated Investor one must be able to satisfy one of 2 things
1. Have a gross income of at least $250,000 for each of the last 2 financial years.
or
2. Have Net Assets of at least $2.5 million (as per section 708 (c) and/or(d)
An Accountant with membership to CPA, ICA or NIA will have to sign off on the declaration.
You send it off to the Broker and you then become a Sophisticated Investor.
In many cases, the smaller brokers will phone you at the 11th hour to take up an offer, as someone else said previously, it's a phone call/email, short story and decision needs to be made fairly quickly. If you reject the offer you will be put to the back of the queue on subsequent offers.
Sophisticated Investors with reputable big broking houses get time to decide on Blue Chip companies, quite the contrary to small broking houses as they don't get a look in unless an offer is sub-underwritten.
