Aleqa apologized and won over Vivian
The newly elected chairman of Siumut, Aleqa Hammond, has no plans to change Siumut's participation in the coalition unless the executive committee, the main board, the Inatsisartut group and, not least, the local branches decide otherwise. But she immediately sets about caring for both local branches and the citizens of farthest Greenland.

- Siumut must be strengthened, and every corner of the country must not have any doubts about the party's policy, which is deeply rooted in Greenlandic society, says Siumut's new chairman, who as you know has been chairman of both the party and Naalakkersuisut, Aleqa Hammond, to Sermitsiaq.

Aleqa Hammond began her campaign speech by apologizing to her party colleagues and she criticized the now-departed leadership of the party for having failed not only its members but also citizens along the coast.
The result of the chairmanship election is also a sign that the party has completely forgiven her for the credit card cases, respectively, during her time as chairman of Naalakkersuisut and later the Folketing.
- My party members know that I have an enormous will to turn words into action, so I am very happy about the trust they have shown me, and now we must work, and we must begin by making an action plan for the party's continued work.
Are there any changes in the party's objectives, since you did not hesitate to criticize the now-departed party leadership for not doing enough and pointed out that far too many people are suffering in Greenlandic society?
- I criticized the party's leadership for not listening enough, for not being inclusive enough and for being far too passive in relation to the local branches' and citizens' struggle to be heard. It is not the party's policy that is the problem, but how the party's objectives are worked on, emphasizes Aleqa Hammond and continues:
- No citizen should feel neglected, they should feel co-ownership of the development of society, and we now have a central board that is passionate about continuing the work for the whole of society, and I am especially looking forward to the work of strengthening our local branches.
Siumut is not leaving the coalition - but there must be ongoing assessments
But Siumut also has elected members of Inatsisartut, who have also chosen to take part in the coalition, should there be changes? Do you plan for Siumut to leave the coalition?
- I should not be the only one to decide on this task, it is the main board, the Inatsisartut group and not least the local branches that must decide on the issue. But no one should be in doubt about whether Siumut's objectives and the coalition cooperation are truly in harmony with each other.
But what messages should there be for Siumut's coalition partners?
- We should not bring messages for now, the coalition remains, and no decisions have been made that change Siumut's participation. But again, it is important to emphasize that Siumut must continuously assess whether such cooperation is in harmony with Siumut's objectives, because we must not and should not disregard our own policy.
