This confirms that there is a hell of a lot copper still to be discovered in the Mount Isa area. I do not believe that the Mount Isa smelter will be allowed to close as it is a nationally strategic asset. We are a very small population in a huge continent, and we need to increase population and build big regional cities ( why not aim for 1m people in Townsville) Unless we do this we simply can't defend our country and reliance on UK or USA to do our future defence will not be possible.
This requires visionary big picture political leadership. Does Albo have it ?
Its just absurd that Mount Isa's future existence is being debated given Glencore's pull back. Strengthening and building Mount Isa should be a national priority. Unless we do this and further occupy our continent, we could lose the whole lot.
