I'm having some reservations about how the locals would take to the idea of underground furnaces - with subsidence and potential for nasties to contaminate the ground water or leak to the surface.
Reality likely to be they'll have to stay away from built up areas because of public concerns about these things. I haven't seen any info from WHE on how suitable the ground conditions are for UCG so ?? there for me. Has anyone read anything encouraging about this?
Linc (LNC) have shown with their Chinchilla pilot - so far - that with the right ground conditions the type of contamination that occurred in the USA can be avoided. Even though western Queensland is fairly lightly populated still plenty of concern about ground water contamination so Linc are being v.closely watched and inspected - the way their SP reacted to the recent inspection shows there was plenty of nervousness about this 'new' technology - SP made a quick recovery on release of good report from independent scientific panel appointed by the Qld Govt to report on CSG - the same panel recommended Cougar's plant be shut down.
Maybe the fact WHE are attempting this in Hungary and not UK or Germany is telling?
Could be early days and take quite a long time to get up and running if a long pilot is necessary. Any comments / thoughts welcome. T
