On a cursory think: loading multiple bricks increases the weight of the machine making it: slower, less accurate and a lot of wasted energy.
Isn't this the main reason why lay speed has increased so much between he two versions of Hadrian? i.e going from a conveyor belt system to a shuttle system.
I assume it works the same way on the brick transport systems as well, with the shuttle able to move much faster then an entire conveyor belt. Perhaps the bricks themselves add to the Dynamic Stabilisation as well. Obviously if this is the case then it would have been known about all along and it would have been technicalities or someone else's expiring IP previously complicating the use of a shuttle process.
