i feel the answer will be yes, all things being equal, if there is going to be less shares on issue, i would say there should be upward pressure on the shares that are left in the market place untill the buyback has finished.
i did read somewhere that the buyback was going to be on the uk market only so if you are shorting bhp on the australian market there should be less impacted that the uk.
one play could be waiting for the buyback to finish then shorting if your trading plan triggers a sell, then at least you will not be trading against a co like bhp.
