Timber company Gunns (ASX:GNS) is moving to make its pulp mill environmentally friendly.
It comes amid warnings against combining the project with Tasmania’s wavering forests peace deal.
Environment minister Tony Burke says the company had sought the incorporation of stricter controls along with other decisions he’s to make on the environmental impact management plan.
Gunns has told shareholders at its annual general meeting that modelling showed there would not be an impact on marine eco-systems.
Prime minister Gillard has declined to distance her government from help for the mill.
Gunns last reported a loss of over 4.5 million dollars.
