Quranic translators frequently add bracketed words to “clarify” the meaning of certain verses—a modern practice not found in the Quran itself. This technique is likely used to obscure what the text plainly says. It violates the Quran’s foundational principle: its original Arabic is regarded as sacrosanct, perfect, divinely preserved, and free from error. Therefore, any attempt to insert explanatory words or phrases, when accurately translated, should raise serious concern. If the Quran is indeed perfect, why would a translator feel the need to insert words to clarify its “intended” or “contextual” meaning? In contrast, no such additions are required or permitted for Bible scripture as they would be a violation of God’s command (refer Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5-6; Revelation 22:18–19).
Even more suspiciously, the Quran contains the Taqiyya, which literally means “prudence” or “caution”. It refers to the practice of concealing one’s religious beliefs or practices when facing danger or persecution. It’s a form of dissimulation or secrecy, primarily used to protect oneself or one’s community from harm. The Qur’an mentions this principle in Surah 3:28 and Surah 16:106. Therefore, any inserted words, clarifications, or explanations of texts, such as those commonly used for Surah Muhammad 2:191; 3:151; 9:5; 47:4, which command the killing of all unbelievers, and Surah Muhammad 2:256; 4:89, which command the killing of apostates, from anyone can be deemed invalid, as it’s possible they might be a Muslim in disguise and have every reason to conceal their true meaning. If the people of a nation truly and soberly understood what the Quran commands Muslims to do to all unbelievers, all who believe in it would be exiled or exterminated, and therefore, Muslims have every reason and motivation to apply the Taqiyya to obscure the meaning of such commands in the Quran and their true beliefs, convictions, and intentions. Instead, we should base our judgement upon the plain interpretation of these verses and compare it with the actions, or “fruits”, of those from the Muslim faith, especially its most devout followers.
I’ve included the quoted verses from the Kuran for your own reading: Killing All Unbelievers: “And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from where they drove you out. Persecution is worse than killing. And do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they fight you there. But if they fight you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:191)
“We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah, for which He has not sent down any authority. Their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.” (Surah Ali 'Imran 3:151)
“And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, then let them go their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Surah At-Tawbah 9:5)
“So when you meet those who disbelieve, strike the necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then bind firmly the bond; then either a favor afterwards or ransom until the war lays down its burdens. That. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken retribution from them, but to test some of you with others. And those who are killed in the way of Allah, He will never waste their deeds.” (Surah Muhammad 47:4)
Killing Apostates: “There shall be no compulsion in religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in false gods and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:256)
“They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.” (Surah An-Nisa 4:89)
The Taqiyya: “Let not the believers take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. And whoever does that has nothing to do with Allah—unless you do so as a precaution to protect yourselves from them. And Allah warns you of Himself, for to Allah is the final return.” (Surah Ali 'Imran 3:28)
“Whoever denies Allah after having believed—except for one who is forced while his heart remains firm in faith—then those who willingly open their hearts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allah, and they will have a great punishment.” (Surah An-Nahl 16:106)
