From a business point of view, labour is just another production cost and it wants to be able to add or reduce its holding of labour with the greatest flexibility (remember WorkChoices ?).
From the humanity point of view, labour is a person with feelings, has a life to live, family members to support, and has an important role to play in the society he/she lives outside of work.
Sadly, many busineses seem to think mainly of the former rather than the latter.
