Actually, it has been my experience that vets are more open than physicians to new therapies and treatments that are easier and cheaper than the "accepted" ones. The medical model for animals is quite different than the human model; culling for example is almost never practiced among human populations. The animal model relies more on prevention than cure than does the human model. hence the resistance among physicians to vitamin and mineral supplementation among humans.
Given that, I see no reason to resist the introduction os a cheap, effective way of controlling and, yes, treating, bovine mastitis. What's the risk? If it isn't effective, no one is burning the supplies of antibiotics.
Antibiotics will still be there for stubborn or resistant cases.
