I think in this case tax payers are funding landlords via negative gearing, so who is enjoying the benefits of socialism here?

I think for any losses ASX speculators get tax credits against future profits, ie. they can't offset loss against other incomes like wages, they can only offset it against future profits. So they fund themseleves if at all they are profitable, otherwise they suffer loss.
