I think you got the control samples mixed up with dusters ;)

I am wondering how much of the down-selling may be prompted by other investors also looking at that and assuming there was only 1 good result in the report when really there was only 1 result of a relevant sample in there at all.

I think the point of this confirmation is that they have gone through all the hoops comparing against known control samples and double-checking the sample itself so they can definitively say they know for sure what the grade of the sample is.
