Welcome back to the ASXCG for a recap of a remarkable second days play.
After resuming from the close of yesterdays play and chasing a score of too-71 (271), CSL started the day in disastrous fashion with opening batsmen - I'monthe Board, brilliantly caught at first slip for a golden duck with the score on zero from the bowling of ASX fast bowler Agi tated.
It didn't get much better from there after a scintillating spell of fast bowling on a wicket that assisted the quicks who got in early as the wicket provided plenty of movement off the seam. CSL lost another two quick wickets as medium pacer - Scott Broker, teamed up with another quick - Margin Call, to remove the top order with McNamee caught leg before on 2 and Gisserot on zero after attempting an ill-timed cut shot which came off the toe of the bat and caught at silly point. Next to go was Cee Quirus who was caught in the deep by Insta Tution after a top edge off the bowling from Margin Call.
As the pitch flattened out by mid morning, CSL started to mount a recovery. But it was short lived as wickets began to tumble as cracks began to appear. At lunch, CSL were down for not f*c*king much as a likely turnaround looked off the charts.
After lunch, the ASX bought in its spinners who wreaked havoc on a wicket that turned ferociously. By tea, CSL were on their knees after a comedy of errors that led to a run out at the bowlers end with both batsmen - Vee For & Appendix Four Gee, involved in a horrible mix up that left them stranded in the popping crease. Short Seller was able to whip off the bails and it was starting to look like CSL would need to hold a strategic review of their entire game plan to stem the bleeding.
CSL had no other option other than to send out their night watchman - McKenzie who survived a fast dipping, drifting leg break that spun viciously. McKenzie played it off the back foot and smashed it to the boundary for four! But the damage had been done as the ASX team displayed their ascendancy over the struggling CSL outfit.
A marvellous effort in the field by ASX at their home ground with a record breaking 5,026,031 in attendance which by all accounts was 'above average'.
CSL finished off todays play at 9 for too-too-five (9/225) and seemingly have the job ahead of them tomorrow when play resumes at 10am AEST.
